VOLKSPOWER - DRIVER TRAINING PROGRAM

Level 1
The first level training is John Bowe Driving’s Drive to Survive defensive driving course. It is a full day course, includes lunch & refreshments and consists of a mix of defensive &
advanced driving skills. Participants use their own vehicle so that they can understand how it feels and reacts in emergency situations.
The course content includes a balance of classroom discussion and driving activities, during which you will learn about;
- Defensive driving techniques
- Causes of crashes and how to avoid/minimize your risk
- Understand car control/vehicle dynamics
- Emergency Braking and Avoidance
- Identifying potential road hazards
- Dispel the myths of skid control
This course is suitable for drivers of all ages and all levels of experience. It is compulsory to complete this course to progress to any further levels of training (unless you have completed a similar course previously, please contact John Bowe Driving to discuss your situation). The Drive-to-Survive course is designed to provide you with the awareness to be a much safer driver on our roads and sets in place many of the skills to safely progress to higher levels of driver training.
Further Drive Program Information.
Level 1 – Defensive Driving:
- Course will not void insurance, it’s ‘driver training’ without high speeds, timing, etc
- This course does not require any special preparation, just dress for the weather and
bring your car
- Increase tyre pressures to 40psi
- You can share 2 people per car
- No loose items in the car
- Check Oil, Water, full tank of Fuel
- Conducted at either Sandown or Calder Park driver training areas (not on a racetrack)

Level 2
The second course is the John Bowe Driving Advanced Driving course and expands upon the skills and awareness introduced during your Drive to Survive course. It is conducted at Calder Raceway and will provide a chance to learn about some of the individual skills that will help you to stay safe on the road and progress you towards driving on a racetrack. This course has smaller group sizes and a more intensive level of tuition, pushing the limits of yourself and your vehicle.
This course includes;
- High Speed Braking
- High Speed emergency avoidance techniques
- Vehicle balance & Throttle control
- The importance of vision when driving
- Corner Lines
- Motorkhana activities
This course is suitable for drivers
Further Drive Program Information.
Level 2 – Advanced Driving:
- Course will not void insurance, it’s ‘driver training’ without high speeds, timing, etc.
- Dress for the weather
- Increase tyre pressures to minimum 40psi, (approx 4-6 higher than manufacturer recommend)
- No loose items in the car
- Check Oil, Water, full tank of Fuel
- Conducted only at the Calder Park driver training areas (not on a racetrack).
- Not compulsory to do this course before attending the Level 3 course although it is
recommended to help you get the most out of your driver training experience

Level 3 – Introductory Performance Driving Course
The third level in your driver training progression is a hybrid course developed by John Bowe Driving specifically for the Volkspower group. This event will be conducted at Sandown Raceway and will give you a chance to move safely from road driving to circuit driving. This course will be made up of mainly driving activities, including;
- High Speed Threshold Braking technique
- High Speed Vehicle Control
- Drive Circuit Sections
- Drive Circuit Laps
- Motorkhana competition
This course is conducted under controlled conditions to ensure that everyone can participate safely without the need for car upgrades (ie. brakes, fire extinguishers, race suits, etc). There is limited (if any) excessive wear on your vehicle and the skills developed will give you a chance to move safely and competitively towards full, unrestricted circuit activities.

Event 3 – Introductory Performance Driving:
- This course should not void insurance as it is a ‘driver training’ event with speeds
limited/controlled, no timing, etc. (check with your insurer)
- Check your brake pad material and fluid (or have it checked for you)
- Dress for the weather
- Increase tyre pressures to minimum 40psi, (approx 4-6 higher than manufacturer recommend)
- No loose items in the car
- Check Oil, Water, full tank of Fuel
- Conducted at Sandown Raceway

Level 4 – High Performance Course

Have you wondered what it would be like to drive your car on a race track and see what it (and you) can really do?
Then do whatever it takes to make it to the Volkspower Performance Circuit Drive Day at Sandown Raceway on Saturday 30th August.
Volkspower have arranged a circuit drive day utilizing the expertise of one of Australia’s leading driver training providers - John Bowe Driving. This course will give you heaps of track time with professional instructors who will be available to help you improve your skills and help you to get the most from yourself and your car.
Course Outline
Registration: Chat with other participants while you enjoy tea/coffee & biscuits
Safety Discussion: Skid Control & Prevention, Circuit Etiquette
Circuit Inspection: get to know the track
Instruction Sessions: Instructors available to help you improve your skills.
Lunch (supplied)
